Naming a campaign, from the table to the map

The trick to naming a whole campaign is to match the effort to the moment. A player character earns a real choice: pick the race generator, set gender and length, and read a few aloud until one fits the concept. Recurring NPCs deserve the same care, because the names your players remember are the ones you said with weight.

For the throwaway NPCs, the barkeep, the guard, the merchant your party decides to befriend for an hour, speed matters more than perfection. Keep a generator open in a tab, generate a batch of human or dwarf names before the session, and have a dozen ready so you never stall on "uh, his name is, uh, Bob."
