Naming tips

Making a potion sound bottled

Name what it does, or hides

A potion label sets expectations: Draught of Vigour restores, Widow's Tears poisons, the Mistveil Brew clouds the mind. Pair an effect with a form like Draught, Elixir or Brew.

Match the kind to the maker

A temple healer and a hedge witch brew very different bottles. Set the kind, Healing, Poison, Arcane, Alchemical or Witchbrew, so the name suits the shelf it sits on.

Refine, don't restart

Right brew, wrong bottle? Choose the name, hit Refine, and switch between Draught, Elixir and Brew while keeping the core.

Potion Name Generator FAQ

Yes. You can generate unlimited potion, elixir and brew names for free, with no sign-up. Copy or save any you like and use them however you want.
Absolutely. The names suit potion, elixir and brew names for worldbuilding in D&D 5e, Pathfinder and most fantasy settings. Pick a kind, generate, and drop your favourite straight into the campaign.
Each kind shapes the mood and the words used: Healing, Poison, Arcane, Alchemical and Witchbrew. Leave it on Any for a mix, or pick one to match your scene.
The Form option sets the form word. Draught gives single doses: the Draught of Name, the Name Draught; Elixir gives refined potions: the Elixir of Name, the Name Elixir; Brew gives rough brews: the Name Brew, the Name Tonic; None gives just the potion name, with no form word. Leave it on Any for a spread.
Each name pairs a describing word with a noun chosen for the kind, or uses a classic phrase, then optionally wraps it in a form like Draught, Elixir or Brew. That means endless original names rather than a fixed list.
Yes, for stories, comics, video games, streams and other creative projects. Generated names are not trademarked here, but for a major commercial title it is sensible to do a quick search to make sure your chosen name is not already strongly associated with something else.
No. Each batch is checked against the names you have already seen this visit, so you can generate again and again without repeats. Use Previous to step back to an earlier batch.
